YAMAGATA: KAKI Kiwami – savour the Yamagata-gyu
Come to Yamagata , one must savour the yamagata beef!
We researched pin-pointed a few restaurants that offer grilled beef or yakiniku before travelling to this area. Finally we picked up this KAKI Kiwami that is located very close to our hotel.

KAKI Kiwami
KAKI Kiwami offers carefully selected Yamagata-gyu yakiniku. It is said that Yamagata-gyu cattle are raised with extra special care and it takes a longer period than other beef varieties, this gives a more refined texture to the meat interlacing with perfect marbling as well as a richer flavour on the meat.
Aside from the local Yamagata beef, they also have Yonezawa beef on the menu. Yonezawa beef is one of the three most famous beef brands in Japan, along with Kobe beef and Matsusaka beef. Also, they have a variety of rare cuts to offer too!
I can’t quite remember all the order we had, but we had parts like Salted Tongue (¥1,520), Aged Kalbi (¥1,700), Yamagata Beef Top Rib, Beef Platter with the day’s assorted cuts (¥5,800), Premium Domestic Tripe or known as one of the Hormones, Salad (¥790) and ended our meal with the aromatic Stone-roasted Garlic Rice (¥970).
We grilled them ourselves and enjoyed them at our own pace. Super fatty, marbling, and very delicious!
Appetiser to start. Each of us was presented with this appetiser once we were seated.
