YAMAGATA: Yamagata Sake Museum @ Zao Onsen
Yamagata Sake Museum
Yamagata Sake Museum is located at Zao Onsen area, about 5 minutes’ walk from Zao Onsen Bust terminal or about 10 minutes’ walk from Zao Ropeway Zao Sanroku Station. Soon we had done with our half day tour up at Mount Zao , it was the time for us to heat up and refuel our body with some good local sake.

Yamagata Sake Museum is the place where you can learn and taste the Yamagata’s sake! The Yukemuri Bar Tsumami’s sake menu offers sake from 49 sake breweries in Yamagata Prefecture! Yes, you are able to taste all the special from these sake breweries under one roof (at a fee; different sake comes with different pricing)!
We ordered quite a bit, ranging from ¥ 300 to ¥ 600 per tasting. I quite like such an idea, where we got the opportunity to pick up what we think we will like or feel like tasting, then taste it, before purchasing the whole huge bottle!
Definitely found something I like here!! And found this new rice (the right bottle) I like with the fairy-liked name Yukimegami or also known as “Snow Goddess 雪女神”. Such a beautiful name for this rice grain! Ordered the left bottle because of its beautiful label. LOL.
Also, we got these free coupons from our kind neighbour; which allowed us to redeem one glass with one ticket per person.
You can even purchase the bottles too if you found something you like! After tasting, we got ourselves a bottle of namazake to be enjoyed back in the hotel.
Yukemuri Bar Tsumami also offers a great selection of local Yamagata dishes. However, I am not sure if they serve food all day long or special timing only. You gotta check it out and let me know!
After Sake, happy me! LOL!
