Otoba @ The Five, Bukit Damansara, KL
Otoba
Otoba is the new face that shows up here at The Five; a modern izakaya serving lovely fare where you can get yakitori, kushiyaki, small bites, robatayaki, donburi, gyoza and pairing them with a drink or two!
I was actually lured by the beef don that a friend posted on IG stories! Immediately, I dated my girl friends for Friday dinner here!
Open kitchen concept with great ventilation system! We didn’t smell like a yakitori/ grilled meat even seated very near to the kitchen. Nice!
Get to observe Chef Rocky and his team in action.
We love their Beef Don and Sichuan-style Prawn Gyoza. Silky smooth gyoza skin with nice prawn fillings, and dressed with a hint of numbing mala pepper and vinegar. The dressing was quite an addictive one where we wished the leftover sauce stayed and to have it with the avocado tempura. The beef don was good! The beef was grilled to perfection, with lightly crust outer and soft tender center; complemented perfectly with a stir of onsen egg and lots of chopped negi. Yumz!
Come to an izakaya , Yakitori is sure a must! We had the Wing, Thigh and Leek which were okay. We are never big fans of their tsukune as it was too powdery soft to our liking. The Inner Thigh with the hot sauce was really something! Chef knows how to tweak the sauce right to go with the meat. Skin was sold out for the day and bonjiri was not in the menu, so I couldn’t try on these two I love.
We also picked up one of the bao; Karaage Bao was fiery hot in its spicy mayo and layer with the sourish sweet yuzu slaw. I could tell they do great in the Karaage so next time can order Karaage too.
