SWITZERLAND: Mount Stanserhorn
From Mount TITLIS , we made our way from Stand to Engelberg by train and then to Stans, just to reach our next attractive destination.
Mount Stanserhorn
Stanserhorn is one of the beautiful mountains in Switzerland, standing high up at 1,898 meters above sea level, offering spectacular views of Swiss Alps.

Stanserhorn-Bahn is just about a 5-minutes’ walk from Stans Station. Once you reach the bottom station, you will board onto this very cool and very well-maintained classic funicular, taking you up to the next station.
The return ticket from Stans to Stanserhorn cost CHF 74, but it is fully covered by Swiss Travel Pass (STP); so yes it is FOC to travel up here if you are holding the STP!
We were lucky as the funicular master allowed us to be on the VVIP first class seats with him. Though they were the standing “seats”, we were able to capture the wow moments of the whole journey.
Left and right are filled with greenish views, small cottages, and breezy fresh. I really like it here.
The funicular will slowly take you up to the Kalti, the middle station. The whole journey takes about 10 minutes. And from here you will have to hop off the funicular and board the CabriO Cable Car.
This CabriO cableway is the world’s first cable car featuring a roofless upper deck which is also one of the main attractions of Mount Stanserhorn. You can get a magnificent view from here, plus some cool breeze along the way at the open upper deck of the cable car. The whole journey on the cable car takes less than 10 minutes to reach the top station.
From the historical funicular to the new-age cable car, it was really an exciting trip going up to Stanserhorn. Moreover, Mount Stanserhorn reminded me of the Shin-Hotaka Ropeway in Chubu, Japan . Very similar. It also offers a picturesque view of the Alps and the only double decker gondola ropeway in Japan.
That’s so scenic up here on the CabriO aerial cableway!
One “wefie” we have.
We were a little lucky to get some nice photos of the picturesque views here before the thick mist/ clouds “invading”.
However, I didn’t get a photo of myself here at the viewing platform. The mist quickly covered up the space before I could run over. Here was a tourist posing with the view.
Really beautiful and scenic but the next seconds, it was covered up, turning misty. We didn’t dare to walk towards the upper part. LOL.
We’d met the friendly ranger who told us about the marmots in the Marmot Park! However, the marmots were too shy to show themselves.
We took some photos with the “marmot”!
There are many things to do up here at Stanserhorn, you can also do a bit of walking or hiking. Or relaxing on these deck chairs with a book and snack, being surrounded by the magnificent panoramic view from Stanserhorn is such a great enjoyment. If weather permits, I would definitely take a small walk around. Well, we’d chilled with our snacks up here.
Of course, there is also a self-service restaurant offering a wide selection of meals here too. You may have your meal along with the wonderful scenery up here. I’d find that there weren’t too many tourists (during my visit) over here, you will be able to enjoy the peaceful moment overlooking the beautiful scenery.
Ahhh, wanted to get this banknote as souvenir, but the machine is under maintenance!
So ended up, I sent home some postcards.
Wanted to wait for my friends to come up to Mount Stanserhorn but they missed the earlier funicular. We didn’t wait any longer as the daylight ended soon and it got really colder.
