Sake Festival Malaysia 2024
Sake Festival Malaysia 2024
Sake Festival Malaysia made a comeback after some years! Organized by Nomi Tomo Sake House, this event happened on 3rd and 4th August (yes over liaooo!), took place in Chateau DeCanter at Damansara Uptown.
During this event, one got to explore the variety of sake from 19 sake breweries, namely Nito, Kirinzan, Azumatsuru, Bijofu, Dassai, Dewazakura, Kinmi Sake, IyoKagiya, Niwa no Uguisu and many many more.
Oh yayyyy! It’s my kind of 酒見 again!
I enjoyed that very first one in KL which happened back then in 2017 in The Isetan Japan Store . Also the Dajin Sip Fest that happened at the end of September last year but we had to use our coins very wisely because there were too many to try; each glass may cost from one to three coins.
This time in this Sake Festival Malaysia 2024, I managed to get the early bird bundle ticket that was priced at Rm 440 for 4 pax and early bird single ticket at Rm 150; each of us get 10 tokens in exchange of 10 glasses of sake! Best of the best, I won a pair of tickets to attend the event! Thank you very much to Nomi Tomo Sake House! I took my parents who enjoy sake along and we hopped over to the tasting party!
Super excited to see that there are more sake tasting events or sake festivals happening in KL. We enjoyed trying out different varieties of sake and we found what we love too! However, the venue’s space was rather small; we were still able to roam around freely cos we were early to start the party.
Okay, I have to admit I was attracted by their labels in the very first place. So I get both of them to try. Get to know that they are from a small brewery in Saga, Kyushu. Azumatsuru black and white junmai ginjo namazake, brewed with black and white koji respectively. Both are very special with light fizziness on the palate. As for me, I prefer the white one that is sweeter and ended with a more refreshing crisp. Yep, I carried a bottle home from the event.
Spotted Ohmine!!! Only three grains was available at the event.
And goshhhhh! Kinmi Sake stole our hearts, and took most of our tokens!!! LOL. We love all their Nama Genshu here. Get to know that the sake here are from small breweries in different prefecture and each of them have very distinctive profile. Oh yes we kept spending our tokens here at Kinmi Sake and bought a bottle of Ageo home.
Personally, I like their Kamogata that comes with a hint of soft peach; Noto is very special with a hint of sea breeze, very umami due to its brewery location which is in Ishikawa. Nagaoka is pretty soft and smooth while Ageo is very special in its fruitiness. All comes with different characteristics!
We also get a full tasting on Benten! The person in charge gave us full details about the Benten and the differences in their Dewasansan and Yukimegami bottles available! Very much appreciated! And I learned that my heart is towards Yukimegami more!
One of my favourite brand – Dewazakura ! I love their Yukimegami very much and I had it during my trip to Yamagata last March . They are superb! If you guys have the chance, do check out the Yukimegami series.
Cute Nito ! We also spent a bottle on this, the one that was specially produced during the Year of Rabbit.
These few Kirinzan’s sake from Niigata we tried are light and easy to drink. One of their sake has a very romantic name (I feel) – Shooting Star! An elegantly dry sake that is bright and comes with a crisp!
颜值控的我,那个label 也是很美! This Yamagata Masamune Junmai Ginjo Malola is very unique, taste like wine but not wine! It is brewed using the malolactic fermentation technique that is used in wine making! I was hesitating to bring this home or the other namazake from Kyushu. Well, in the end I bought the Azumatsuru White. Next time then, I will carry this home.
