Chong Qing Suan La Fen @ Restaurant Yulek, Cheras
My parents love exploring the nearby neighbourhoods for breakfast and one day they stumbled upon this place by chance. They have tried and tested their Crossing-the-bridge Noodles 过桥米线 and Fried Dumpling 锅贴, highlighted to me that I must give a try as they offer also the Suan La Fen.
Last week, I managed to make a visit as I had this craving for something tangy spicy on the hot sunny day. So this bowl of noodles just popped up in my mind.
This hawker stall is located right inside Restaurant Yulek 友力茶室 at Taman Cheras, at the corner shop right opposite Restaurant Hau Kee, serving more than just Crossing-the-bridge Noodles 过桥米线 and chinese-style fried dumplings 锅贴. They have this Suan La Fen which I have been cravings and also Spicy Wonton in Sichuan Chili oil 红油抄手 that I love!
Chong Qing Suan La Fen 重庆酸辣粉 (Rm 10)
A hot piping bowl of semi transparent springy potato noodles with wontons in the sour and spicy soup, loaded with stir-fry minced meats and mushrooms bits, and garnished with lots of scallions, cilantro, preserved mustard stems, crispy roasted soy nuts.
Pretty addictive bowl of noodles. Tangy, sourish and with a soft hint of spiciness and very mild hint of numbness. Very appetizing and refreshing. I found the spiciness level may have toned down to suit the locals. But you may kick up the spiciness with the dried chilies flakes/ paste that come along with the noodles. Seriously ass-kicking!
I slurped up the spicy and tangy soup! Too addictive!
Spicy Wonton in Sichuan Chili oil 红油抄手 (Rm 9)
A signature street food that I love. The wonton was plump with minced pork while its skin was thin and silky smooth. Drizzled with the Sichuan chili oil which was mildly numb and spicy, and garnished with the chopped spring onions, cilantro, sesame, and roasted soy nuts. The whole combination was very aromatic.
