Sushi Mastro Nikkei @ Kepong, KL
Another piece that has been in the archive for the longest time. My procrastination is … way tooo over. Till almost one year later… I finally pick up writing this, because the BFF revisited this place few days ago! LOL.
Sushi Mastro Nikkei
Located in the Fortune Centra, Kepong; Sushi Mastro Nikkei is specializing in Nikkei Cuisine, or also known as the Japanese-Peruvian cuisine. It is a beautifully harmonized cuisine, by incorporating Peruvian ingredients into Japanese cooking techniques and recipes, there born the unexpectedly delicious fusion dishes.
The premise took place at the first floor, with small area for indoor and the other section will be an al fresco dining area. Reservation is highly recommended as the restaurant’s occupancy is quite high, even on a weekday.
Side note, parking here can be quite horrendous during the weekdays, lunch time. It took me turning many rounds to get an empty spot. Perhaps dinner time or weekend will be better.
Sashimi Surtidas (Rm 168)
Served with 8 kinds of assorted fish, with 2 cuts each. Salmon, Hamachi, maguro, ootoro, hotate, Ikejime siakap, Ikejime red snapper and ikejime Malabar.
Ikejime is a humane method of killing the fish. With this method, it also helps to preserve the freshness and the quality of the meat. It is interesting to see that our locally sourced fishes are made into sashimi, with this method. These three were very bouncy in textures, drizzled with special ponzu sauce to give a refreshing tanginess to the sashimi.
Ohhhhhhh, fatty toro appeared in beautiful soft pink, interlacing with rich creamy fats. It was so creamy, oily, fatty, yummy on the palate. So fresh so good!
Hotate or scallop was super sweet! Huge too!
Seafood Shirashizushi (Rm 80)
Dosed with generous servings of salmon, Hamachi, hon maguro, amaebi, ikura, tobiko, barramundi, red snapper, Malabar and underneath of the rice bowl was the fatty unagi! Besides the fresh cube cuts of fish, what I love was the very flavourful sushi rice that made to chewy perfection and loaded with aromatic white sesame bits. Mix everything together to get a perfect balance of all flavours. Every mouthful of the rice come with juicy flavourful fish cubes. Conclusion, it didn’t just appear great for the gram, it tasted really delicious too!
Norwegian Salmon (Rm 52)
Grilled salmon 200gram, made into your choice of teriyaki, miso or shioyaki. We had ours done in teriyaki. This salmon steak done right, with crispy skin and succulent meat.
