SWITZERLAND: Mount Rigi
MOUNT RIGI
Mount Rigi, also known as Queen of Mountains; located in central Switzerland and it is easily accessible from Luzern. The whole journey from Luzern to Rigi Kulm takes about 1hour 40 minutes.
If you are staying in Luzern, please spare some times to come up here for its breath-taking Swiss Alps view. If you are holding the Swiss Travel Pass, that’s even better because coming up here is fully covered by the Swiss Travel Pass (that means FOC!).

After the visitation to Gotthard Base Tunnel Tour , we caught a train from Erstfeld to Arth-Golden.
We then boarded this vibrant blue colour Cogwheel Train from Arth-Goldau up to Rigi Kulm. You get to experience the nostalgia Swiss historical railway because the Europe’s first mountain railway is here, since 1871.
Do take the seats on the right side, you will find yourself immerse into the breath-taking view along the way, from the view of lake to the view of Alps. Amazing!
Alternatively, if you are coming from Weggis, you take the aerial cable cars and then cogwheel train to the summit.
We took a stroll at the peak which is standing high up at 1798m above the sea level. I had underestimated the temperature here at the summit. It was freezing cold with the addition of strong winds that was blowing nonstop; I almost became an ice potong.
There is this stone of Mt. Emei of China standing high up here; and you may think why? That is because it is the one partnership between these two mountains, Emei Shan in Sichuan Province, China and Mount Rigi, established in 2009.
My brother and I, two ice potong. LOL.
Cold cold freezing cold! We were almost being blown off by the extremely strong wind. Please dress accordingly (or bring more) if you guys are coming here. We were also supposed to have our dinner in one cute little place up here in Rigi Kulm, about 1km away from the station, by walking. However, seeing our outfit condition and the darker surrounding as the sun set, we decided to call off our plan and headed back to Luzern for dinner.
There is a hotel up here too, blessed with a great view.
