Sushi Ori 鮨おり @ Menara Keck Seng, KL
After the long wait, my No. 1 男神 is back in action. *throw confetti*
It is this new friend I made, Jessie whom I will describe her as a sushi connoisseur (don’t whack me if you read this. LOL) has brought us (sushi lovers) up together for a sushi meet up on her birthday! Thank god I have her with me; I learnt more on the fresh catches that Ori-san turned them into the delectable nigiri sushi. It is really cool to be able to understand Japanese and thank you for being my translator!
Sushi Ori 鮨おり
Ori-san has left Sushi Oribe and opens up his own 10-seater sushiya in the heart of KL city. Private rooms are available too but I always love to be seated at the counter, this is where you will be able to observe the skill of the real artisan. In this new premise, Ori-san will be introducing the “Red Shari”, the red vinegar-ed sushi rice to the diners. It complements very well with each ingredients. I have to say, Ori-san has a special skill or hidden magic that will make you craving for more of his sushi creation. LOL.
There are a few courses available during lunch, namely Ayame, Kikyo, Botan, Tsubaki and Omakase. We went for Tsubaki 椿course that is priced at Rm 327. It comes with appetizer, chawan mushi, 11 pieces nigiri sushi, roll sushi, miso soup and dessert.
I was extremely impressed with this course. There were so many new fish in my dictionary now such as Kue, Gizzard Shad, Kawahagi… they were all so delicious!
Appetizer – Barracuda sashimi
Buri – yellow tail
Kue – a type of grouper
Chutoro – medium fatty belly
Gizzard Shad
Something new in my sushi dictionary. Once I popped it into my mouth, I feel like dancing. No joke, it was too yummy!
Kawahagi カワハギ – Filefish and its liver
Wow wow, another new item in my dictionary!
Chawan Mushi
Shima Aji
Aji
Ootoro
No kidding, this melted right in the oral cavity! I have never tasted the cut like this before. Of course I tried tuna fatty belly before. But this cut wowed my heart. Very very very memorable.
Engawa
Anago – Sea-eel made 2-way, with shio and sweet sauce
Toro maki
Another highlight of the course will be this Special Bowl, the High Cholesterol Bowl that dosed with negitoro, shrimps, Roe and UNI!!! So good!
Miso Soup
Tamago and pickled daikon
Finally, that’s the sweet ending with a Dessert of the season, persimmon.
Reservation is strongly recommended if you wish to enjoy the counter sitting sushi experience with Ori-san. Hearsay the counter seat is always full and we were really lucky to get our seats and visited within the first week of opening.
