Portofino Italian Restaurant @ Lucky Garden, Bangsar
Satiated with all the Chinese New Year dishes?! Let me bring your taste buds to savour some Italian delights. And hope this is in time for you to plan the Valentine’s Day with your loved one.
Portofino Italian Restaurant
The neighbourhood Italian restaurant that is located in Lucky Garden, Bangsar; serving authentic Italian comfort food which is delicious and very wallet-friendly. It is manned by 2 passionate young men, Chef Keli who is the lead in the kitchen and Luca who is in charge of the operation. The first impression of Portofino to me, it is some upscale restaurant due to its location, Bangsar. Little did I find out, Portofino is not what I thought; in fact, it is a family-friendly restaurant, serving really good Italian fares with top quality of ingredients and priced very affordable too.
Do come savour some Italian dishes like pizza, pasta, and pair them with some wines too! they have quite and extensive menu on both food and beverages.
Insalata Caprese (Rm 28)
Caprese Salad
Buffalo Mozzarella served with slices of fresh tomato, extra virgin olive oil and drizzled with Genova pesto. As simple as that, no extra cooking method needed, just prettily plated and it was amazingly light and refreshing.
Bruschetta con Funghi (Rm 16)
Wild Mushroom Bruschetta
Toasted bread with sautéed mushrooms, Parmigiano Reggiano and extra virgin olive oil. This was so yummy! The earthy fragrant sautéed mushroom, topped generously with Parmigiano on the crispy bruschetta, melted.
Insalata Portofino (Rm 30)
Seafood Salad
Sautéed fresh prawns, squid rings, scallops, baby octopus, served with black olives, romaine lettuce, tomato, carrots, cucumber, green apple slices, red onions and capsicum with an exquisite house dressing.
My oh my, another simple salad, with every ingredients assembled and drizzled with the house dressing, it looked simple but it was so good!
Carpaccio di salmone (Rm 28)
Salmon Carpaccio
Slices of Norwegian smoked salmon served with romaine lettuce, black olives, carrots, fresh orange slices, toasted bread with an in-house dressing.
Crema di Zucca (Rm 14)
Pumpkin soup
Traditional Ferrara-style soup of fresh pumpkin. Made with pure pumpkin, with just minimal seasoning, without any additional milk or cream; simply rich and creamy.
Zuppa di Cipolle (Rm 16)
Baked onion soup
A hearty bouillon soup filled with sweet onions and marsala liquor, covered with shredded cheese and baked in oven until golden brown.
Must order this soup if you were here. Chef Keli put a lot of heart in making this soup, loaded with onions and ingredients and boil over long hours to create this concentrated soup that was so lil’ caramelised, sweet and very tasty. Best onion soup I have had!
Gnocchi al Gorgonzola (Rm 36)
Potato dumplings served with a combination of cream, gorgonzola cheese, mushrooms and grilled marinated slices of chicken.
I am in love with this! It is pretty difficult to get great gnocchi in KL as those I found are either too mushy or too starchy. This was delicious! Very flavourful gnocchi, chewy and fluffy inside encased with crispy skin; drenched with cheesy aromatic gorgonzola cheese yet not overly satiating. Impressive!
Spaghetti Portofino (Rm 38)
Seafood Spaghetti
Homemade seafood spaghetti sautéed in olive oil, garlic, chili, basil, prawns, squid, baby octopus, mussels, clams, scallops in fresh homemade fish stock.
Freshly made homemade pasta, done al dente with great chewy texture; infused with fresh essence from the sea. We truly love their homemade pasta, that texture is so different from the commercial one. Lovely!
Spaghetti al Nero di Seppia (Rm 36)
Squid Ink Spaghetti
Homemade squid ink spaghetti sautéed in olive oil, garlic, basil, squid rings, mushrooms, cheery tomatoes in fresh homemade fish stock.
Risotto ai Gamberi e Curry (Rm 36)
Risotto with Prawns and curry spices
A unique risotto with fresh prawns, curry spices, apple and cream.
Coscia di Pollo alla Diavola (Rm 36)
Grilled boneless chicken leg marinated with paprika, black pepper, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce served with colourful sautéed vegetables.
Tagliata d’Anatra (Rm 48)
Roasted Duck Breast with Red Wine Reduction
Exquisite roasted duck breast served with red wine reduction and figs sauce; served with mixed colourful sautéed vegetables.
Succulent roasted duck breast, packed with mega flavours and beautifully plated on a bed of mixed vege. Love that fig that dress up the duck breast meat. They both are very well compatible.
Four Seasons Pizza (Rm 38)
Tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, grilled chicken, turkey ham, mushrooms, and black olives.
Thin crust Italian pizza, with 4 different flavours. who says you can only enjoy one or 2 flavours on a pizza, they have 4 flavours in one pizza here.
Going to the sweet ending. Panna Cotta (Rm 14)
An amazing Italian dessert made by blending thick cream and honey; creamy, milky and the texture was extra “doink doink” and bouncy!
Crunchy almond Semifreddo (Rm 18)
Fresh semi-frozen dessert served with chocolate topping
Crème Brulee (Rm 16)
Cooked cream custard with caramelized sugar.
Tiramisu (Rm 16)
Made with coffee, almond liqueur combined with mascarpone cheese
Another authentic recipe from the chef. It was creamy, light and fluffy; strongly infused with the aromatic coffee and liqueur and ended with a touch of bitter aftertaste due to the chocolate powder.
