Crab Generation 蟹的传人 @ Taman Len Sen, Cheras
When people talk about crab (not crap), one sure say about the fresh seafood from Klang which is really far; or some fancy seafood restaurants that can cut your wallet into half. As for me, I used to visit this often… but not anymore now as we are already bored with their cooking style’s variety. Wondering is it still around???
But now, I am hooked up on this.
Crab Generation 蟹的传人
I totally have no idea until I was introduced to this place which is so near to me.
Located in Taman Len Sen, Cheras. Crab Generation is a no frills zi char seafood place, also the second branch of the famous Fei Fei Crab in Kepong. I find the dishes they offer are more than just the normal zi char dishes. The dishes they offer are pretty fancy but priced affordably. Read on and you will know why. Thanks to the team for inviting me over for this crabbie-licious food review.
Just a reminder. Be sure to come early or you will be ended up queuing for tables. I was there as early as 5.30pm to secure my seats (on my own revisits, not food review session). By 6.30pm, the queue was already long. Huhhh…
Steamed “Seabird” with Garlic Ginger 姜蒜茸蒸海鸟 (Rm 30 for 6 pieces)
My first time came across “seabird” and first time trying this out. The texture was quite similar to some kind of sea snail or shellfish; dosed with finely chopped garlic and ginger for extra kicks.
Steamed Prawns and Bee Hoon in XO Sauce (RM 58 for 3 prawns – promotion of the time)
A very nourishing dish, dosed with shredded gingers and gei zi and spring onions; the essence of the prawns went no waste but soaked up by the bee hoon. Please slurp them all up as the bee hoon was really sweet.
Deep Fried Pattaya Pork Knuckle (Rm 48 – Rm 58)
Ahhh, who doesn’t love the deep fried crispy pork knuckles that goes with the appetizing sourish dipping sauce?! And it priced really reasonably, given this pork knuckle was really huge.
*gulp* look at the collagenous structure. I just can’t hold my saliva.
Thai Style Chili Lim Steamed Fish with Lala (Rm 68)
This 2 in 1 dish is like killing 2 bird with 1 stone (LOL, what am I talking about?!).
Well, what I wanna say is, you gotta have 2 types of seafood in a dish, at a price. Steamed fish and lala, topped with onions, finely chopped garlic, chili, lime and lime juice. Pretty sure you will need more white rice for just this dish.
Brown Crab with Peanut Butter Sauce (Rm 108 per kg)
Crab Generation has really special recipe in preparing the crabs. You will find more than the ordinary flavours like kam heong style or butter style here. Like this brown crab, it was done in Peanut Butter Sauce. The main attraction of the brown crab was the sinful arteries-clogging cholesterol-spike orangey crab roe. It was lots of them in hidden beneath the shell (should have taken the photo). As for the meat, it was just alright in my opinion. Paired uniquely in the fragrant sweet and savoury peanut butter sauce, coated thickly all over the crabbie.
Deep fried Mantao (Rm 4.5 per roll) to go polish clean the sauces.
But if you ask me which flavour I prefer among these 2, I will pick the later one.
Coffee Cheese Crab (Rm 88 for 2 pieces of XL size ̴1kg; Rm 136 for 2 pieces of XXL ̴1.4kg)
This flavour has my vote. Love the sweet sticky dark sauce coated on the crabs which was infused with aromatic coffee and garnished with cheese powder. Quite addictive I would say, and it had a special burnt flavour too.
Stir Fried Mixed Mushrooms with Broccoli (Rm 20 for small, Rm 30 for big portion)
See, even the presentation of this simple vegetable and mushroom dish is so attractive; given this is a no frills zi char restaurant.
