Afternoon Tea @ IVIV, Intercontinental Kuala Lumpur
Ahhhh, back to work, short break is over in just a blink. I miss the sun, the breeze and a lil’ of the sea as well as the food where I spent over the past weekend. I just need more of those, holiday!!! In order to counter my blue, post holiday syndrome; hence, I came up with this – the little sweet tete-a-tete session with the beautiful ladies over one Sunday.

IVIV
or OneSixFive
of Intercontinental Kuala Lumpur is always in my list for their afternoon tea. A sophisticated yet elegant OneSixFive, with the floor-to-ceiling high glass window, overlooking the lush garden with a man-made waterfall and koi pond; this was where we seated that day, facing the calm scenic view, as though we were out from the city centre.
OneSixFive offers 2 types of afternoon tea; The Malaysian affair ‘Selera’ afternoon tea and the tradition Royal afternoon tea. Each set (or per pax) comes at the price of Rm 75 which includes a pot of selected house tea. Available daily from 2pm to 5pm. A set is good enough to be shared among two, with another order of beverage. Since there were 3 of us, we tried both the sets and we got to choose 2 housed tea.
Shanghai Rose
With an elegant name. It is an exclusive blend of Ceylon black tea leaves infused with fragrant red rose petals and essential lychee oils that ultimately produce a sweet, seductive blend.
Sencha Fukujyu Cha (Japanese)
With refreshing sweet and grassy taste.
Special Hot Chocolate (Rm 26)
Comes with your choice of dark, milk or white chocolate cubes melted into freshly steamed milk. I chose the dark chocolate to go with the steamed milk.
It was fun to see that the chocolate is served in a cube and you will just have to dip it into the hot milk and create the intensity you like by removing them once it’s done. I dipped it all in and slowly; it melted away and created a rich chocolaty hot drink. If you love having an extra kick, you could always opt for additional of liquor such as grand marnier, amaretto, kahlua, bailey’s Irish cream or Jameson’s Irish whiskey at a price.
The ‘Selera’ Afternoon Tea
Sesame and plain scones
Served with Devonshire clotted cream and fresh preserves
Pastries
Durian éclair, red bean and chocolate opera,
Mango panna cotta with coconut sago,
Egg tart with pineapple carpaccio,
‘Kuih lapis’ lamington
Savouries
Mini beef rendang burger, chicken satay pao,
Tuna and avocado ‘kuih paiti’,
Lamb samosa with mango chutney,
Butter prawn saffron roll.

The Royal Afternoon Tea
Raisin and plain scones
Served with Devonshire clotted cream and fresh preserves as well.
Pastries
Lemon meringue tart, caramel éclair,
Chocolate and pistachio opera, green tea crème brulee,
Hazelnut and tonka bean macaroon
Savouries
Crab remoulade roll, smoked salmon and caviar crostini,
Lobster and asparagus bagel, peking duck with cucumber and hoisin,
Wagyu beef tartare with wasabi and brioche.
I shall conclude, they offer pretty good three-tier afternoon tea combination. Love the savouries they prepared especially mini beef rendang burger, chicken satay pao and refreshing Tuna and avocado ‘kuih paiti’ from the Selera set; also the Crab smoked salmon and caviar crostini, peking duck with cucumber and hoisin and Wagyu beef tartare with wasabi and brioche from the Royal set. All ingredients used were at top-notch. Though the scones weren’t the fluffiest ever, the creamy velvety Devonshire cream magically touched up the scones. On the sweet side, they have pretty interesting pastries with the Malaysian twist in the ‘Selera’ set. I fancied the used of red bean in the French dessert, opera and sago in the Italian dessert, panna cotta. Fascinating!
If you were to ask me which is my fave place for afternoon tea??? Ritz Carlton‘s one still topped my list and next will be the one from IVIV. Read more of my afternoon tea journey here.

hi dear,
yea, i have been there once. and that time it was their chocolate buffet month. the savouries and sweets were both good. just my grip, not served on the 3-tier. gotta give another try with the 3-tier one. hehe
may i know the price range for one person ?
hi Gladys,
it is Rm 75 for a set that comes with a pot of tea. 3 of us actually shared 2 sets + additional of the hot chocolate. so after dividing the total (plus the service charges and taxes), it’s around Rm 70 per person
